From Apprentice to HR Admin: Elise Andison's Story

Elise Andison completed her apprenticeship with We Are Zenith while working at Northern Gas and Power, where she started out as a People Administrator. A year on, she’s been promoted into a new role within HR, and her apprenticeship journey ended with a distinction, something she didn’t believe she had in her when she started.

Supported from start to finish

“My overall experience working with Zenith was great. They were a great support system and I felt as though I was guided all the way through. I was able to come out with a distinction at the end and even though I didn’t believe that I could do it, Zenith and my trainer always acknowledged my progress and how I would easily gain a distinction.”

That guidance had a name: Joe, her trainer, who she credits as one of the biggest reasons she got there.

“My trainer Joe was amazing. He was knowledgeable, supportive and approachable. He supported me right through my whole apprenticeship, gave me regular feedback and helped me towards my end goal of a distinction.”

Building more than just qualifications

Juggling coursework alongside her day-to-day role meant Elise came out the other side with more than just a certificate.

“I have built on my team building skills and also my time keeping and organisation skills, as during an apprenticeship I need to make sure my coursework was all complete as well as my tasks within my job role.”

Where she is now

A year into her career, that groundwork has paid off. Elise has been promoted to HR Admin, a role that’s stretching her further still.

“I have been promoted to a role within HR as a HR Admin, and this role has allowed me to work on my organisation skills as well as new skills such as disciplinaries and absence management.”

And when asked if she’d recommend an apprenticeship with We Are Zenith to others, her answer was simple: “Yes 100%.”

It’s a story that sums up exactly what Zenith sets out to do: back people who don’t yet believe in themselves, pair them with the right support, and watch them go on to build real careers. Elise came in doubting she could get a distinction. She left with one, and a promotion to show for it.
