Three roles, one apprenticeship: what AI has actually changed for our team

Skills

Apprenticeship/Level 3 Digital Support Technician (AI Pathway)

At Zenith, we don’t just deliver the Level 3 Digital Support Technician apprenticeship with an AI pathway. Our own people have completed it too. We wanted to see how the programme works in practice, beyond the course content, so we asked three of them, from recruitment, marketing and client relationships, what’s different now. Here’s what they told us about how AI has changed their day-to-day work, and what they’d say to anyone thinking about doing the same.

Meet the team

  • Faye Turner, Senior Recruitment Consultant
  • Jasmine Scott, Marketing Assistant
  • Steven Welsh, Client Relationship Manager

Where they started

None of them were AI experts. Faye was curious to see what it could do and how it might help in her role. Jasmine was using it “here and there, but not as often as I could be.” Steven had tried a few tools, but with AI coming up more and more in his conversations with employers, he wanted to understand how it could support both his work and the businesses he works with.

What they do differently now

Faye: finding candidates faster
Faye now uses an AI agent that takes a job description and sources suitable candidates from LinkedIn. She still searches job boards by hand, but the agent does the first sweep, saving her around two hours.

Jasmine: getting up to speed in a new role
Jasmine uses AI every day, and estimates it saves her around 8 hours a week. While learning a new role, it’s helped her get to grips with new programmes and apps, and with building web pages, from exploring ideas for layout and content to working through the build step by step. It’s also changed her day-to-day work. Writing blogs and email campaigns is much quicker now, with AI helping her get ideas and a first draft down so she can focus on making them right for our audience.

“Things that we get asked for that could have taken hours are now a lot quicker.”
Jasmine Scott, Marketing Assistant

Steven: more time for employers
Steven used to write every email and piece of content from scratch. Now he uses Microsoft Copilot to create a first draft, then personalises and refines it. That saves him around 30 minutes a day, but for Steven the real win is what he does with that time.

“It gives me more opportunity to have meaningful conversations with employers and provide them with more information about the opportunities, support and training available to them.”
Steven Welsh, Client Relationship Manager

The knock-on effect

All three have had colleagues come to them for help with AI. Jasmine has been asked to help with automations. Steven has been sharing practical examples of how AI can save time in other people’s roles. One apprenticeship has turned into know-how spreading across the business.

Getting the most out of it

Doing an apprenticeship alongside a full-time job takes commitment, and Jasmine and Steven both said finding the balance was the biggest challenge. Steven found that the more time he could dedicate to the learning, the more he got out of it. That’s why we always encourage employers to protect their apprentice’s off-the-job time. It’s where the real value comes from.

Would they recommend it?

“I would recommend it. I’ve learnt so much that I use every day, from building automations to getting to grips with new tools. AI isn’t going anywhere, so getting a step ahead now and having a qualification to show for it is something really valuable.”
Jasmine Scott

“Yes, definitely. This programme helped me understand how to use AI in a practical way. It’s given me skills that save time, improve productivity, and help me have more informed conversations with employers.”
Steven Welsh

Faye added that the programme has helped her improve her skills.
