This practical apprenticeship introduces lean manufacturing principles and operational excellence in production environments. You’ll learn to identify waste, support continuous improvement, operate safely and efficiently, and contribute to manufacturing processes that deliver quality products.

Who is it for?

School leavers or career changers interested in manufacturing careers. Ideal for practical, detail-oriented individuals who enjoy problem-solving and working in production environments.

Key learning areas

Apprentices will develop foundational skills across lean principles and waste reduction, manufacturing operations and quality, and health, safety and environmental practices. The curriculum emphasises efficient, standardised ways of working, safe operation of machinery, and maintaining high-quality output. Apprentices will also build awareness of workplace safety and environmental responsibilities, supporting compliant and continuously improving manufacturing environments.

Lean Principles & Waste Reduction

Learn to identify the seven wastes (TIMWOOD), understand 5S workplace organisation, visual management, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency.

Manufacturing Operations & Quality

Develop skills to operate machinery safely, follow standard work procedures, conduct quality checks, understand specifications, and ensure products meet required standards.

Health, Safety & Environment

Master workplace safety, risk assessment, PPE usage, environmental awareness, and creating safe, compliant manufacturing environments.

Assessment

End-point assessment including practical observation of manufacturing activities, professional discussion, and demonstration of lean manufacturing competencies and safety knowledge.
